    • Yes, I have often thought and said that those “delicate” flowers are actually quite tough. In the spring, some of the early bloomers are seen sprouting out of frozen ground, revealed when the ice and snow covering them begins to recede. Their lovely blooms can survive temperatures that would kill us if we spent the night freezing exposed to the air. Tough, indeed! — JG

  1. The colors are so vibrant! That’s the only thing I don’t like about cold weather… the loss of flowers. Makes everybody look forward to Spring I suppose.

    • Perhaps if those flowers were with us all the time we wouldn’t so appreciate their color. Still, I’ll miss ’em when the winter weather sets in and plants go to hide underground! — JG
