The day started out sunny and frosty. I thought the thermometer on our patio read something like 14 degrees as I left the house. At one point during my travel, however, I glanced at the dashboard… the car's thermometer was reading 6 degrees (F). I'm not sure what that was about. It didn't seem that cold to me! The natural beauty (and light traffic due to the Presidents Day holiday) made for an enjoyable drive to work. Put in a nice, solid day of effort including a configuration tweak on our new MozyPro backup software — it needed to have a dedicated Temp directory set up on a drive with more free space along with a small Windows registry edit. Rovin, the helpful young man on the phone from India, had the right solution on the first try. Unseen by me during the day, clouds were thickening and by the time it was time to go home, it was lightly snowing. I took a look out the office window from which I spied the insanely beautiful snow drift sculpture not many days ago. There, wet from unseen thaw above, a small forest of icicles was forming on an evergreen tree. I shot a few photos before leaving for a snowy drive home. Back to the gray grind of work and winter weather.
In the pre-dawn hours this day snow fell lightly. Soon it changed to light rain dripping from the low clouds on to ground and objects chilled to below-freezing temperatures. Pretty much everything received a thin coat of ice making for a hazardous commute for people driving to work. Me? It was a day off for me… I worked my weekend rotation last week and this day off was comp time!
After It stopped raining I ventured outdoors to clear out the seed-catching trays from our bird feeders. The trays were blocked by ice and seed shells and, with rain expected, needed to be emptied to be clean.
It's looking like we won't be making our own holiday cards this year. I'd picked out an image –ivy in a snowy setting– but it was judged not "just right" for a card. {sigh} Shown here is that image, which I like very much, recorded in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, during a November 22 visit. There's still one more photo that may please us both, but precious little time remaining to make and send cards. Sorry!
It was a decent week, for the most part. Two days of deep moodiness were followed by a revival. I completed installation of an email archiving system –for compliance with state and federal record-retention laws– which was a big deal. Yeah, not a bad week.
We spent little time at home today. Took Her car to the dealer to fix a rattle. The noise turned out to be, as expected, the catalytic converter heat shield coming loose. The thing fell clean off as they raised the car on the lift. We did our weekly grocery shopping and set some sort of record for the total spent! We still don't know why, though we did stock up on a few pricier items and seasonal things that are unusual for us.
We picked up the repaired car midday, headed home for a quick lunch, then out the door for some holiday shopping and, well, just to get out … the sky was mostly clear and sunshine beckoned. In the later part of the afternoon we paid a visit to Hinckley Lake, mostly to visit the boathouse outdoors shop there. As we arrived the shop managers were also arriving, back to make sure they had shut something off when they left earlier! They very kindly let us in. We examined some nice sweaters but bought nothing as She does not like items that are marked DRY CLEAN ONLY. Too bad. The storekeepers were very nice about it having been inconvenienced not at all; in fact, they were downright cheerful and friendly. Nice way to end the day out in the world.
